Review of the 8th KMSK Benefit Gala on 20.9.2024
On 20.09.2024, the Förderverein für Kinder mit seltenen Krankheiten organized the 8th KMSK Benefit Gala at the Bocken in Horgen for the benefit of children with rare diseases in Switzerland. The auction raised CHF 40,000 for children with rare diseases. High above Lake Zurich, the guests were welcomed in the stylish riding hall of the Bocken and treated to cultural and culinary delights. After the welcome address by our President Prof. Dr. med. Anita Rauch, Director of the Institute of Medical Genetics at UZH, Manuela Stier, founder and Managing Director, presented the milestones of the last ten years. Christina Schneider-Marfels, moderator and advisory board member of the association, led through the evening with great charm. Three-year-old Brandon, who has the rare Angelman syndrome, enchanted the guests. At first, his parents didn't know exactly what was wrong with him. With the help of a genetic test, the disease was finally identified, which was both a relief and a burden for his parents. In a moving interview with Brandon's parents and siblings, the guests learned how exhausting everyday life with an impaired child can be. Musical entertainment was provided by the band The Royal Rhythms and eleven-year-old Elina, who is affected by Peters anomaly, together with ten-year-old Dea. They played the flute and grand piano to thunderous applause. The performance of the two girls deeply touched the hearts of everyone present. The legendary auctioneers, Roland and Isolde Widmer, auctioned off experiences and premium products with a good pinch of humor. The proceeds will go towards the association's projects to provide lasting relief to affected families.
Many thanks to the guests and generous sponsors
