These are interdisciplinary contact points to which patients with an unclear diagnosis can turn for in-depth clarification and a diagnosis. The centers work on a cross-disease basis and coordinate the specialist expertise of the experts involved. As soon as a diagnosis has been made, patients receive further care from disease-specific reference centers and specialists. Centers for rare diseases also support information services for those affected by rare diseases (such as helplines), organize further training and participate in research.
